About Me

David Morrison – Owner

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – St. Augustine

In 2008 I took my first flight, and I also left the USA for the first time. Since then I have traveled to 30+ countries, most of them more than once, and earned Millions of frequent flyer miles and hotel points!

I’m David Morrison, aka Mr. Travel & Credit. I’m a credit card & frequent flyer miles guru, and a travel junkie.  I want to help you travel the world for free, and often!

Read on to learn more about me…

Life Growing Up:
I grew up in, and have spent the majority of my life living in the small town of Sioux City, IA.  I grew up in a traveling family. Every summer that I can remember, my family would always take a big camping trip to a beautiful US National Park or mountain chain. Yellowstone, The Grand Canyon, Tetons, Rocky Mountains, The Black Hills, Glacier National Park, & the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado were some of the many parks we frequented. We also traveled cross-country to visit relatives frequently.  We didn’t fly on big planes, or stay in expensive 5 star beach resorts, but I grew up to learn the joys of traveling, and exploring God’s big and beautiful world!

Career Traveling In a Band:
I started a Christian metal band called For Today with my best friends when I was in High School. We started touring full-time in 2007; Hopping in a 15 passenger van, towing a trailer full of gear, and driving all around North America playing shows in a new city every night, sometimes as long as 3 months straight. Traveling constantly had now become the norm for me, and being at home, had now become irregular. In December of 2007, we signed a 3 album deal with the California indie record label Facedown Records. Some would say we had “made it”. Fast forward a little over 4 years, and we have sold over 80,000 albums, charted multiple times on the Billboard Top 200, and toured around the world multiple times, playing over 1,300 shows on 4 continents & in 19 countries. We have since signed a new deal with the NYC based label Razor & Tie Recordings, and released our 4th album worldwide in June, 2012 and it debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart! I left the band in May, 2012 to follow the Lords calling on my life to be a missionary. They are still trucking and doing better than ever.

Travel History:
Most people still don’t believe me when I tell them that I took my first flight and left the country for the first time ever in 2008, but it’s true!  My first flight was a one way flight on US Airways from Omaha to Salt Lake City, and my first time leaving the country was with my band in Mexico for 2 1/2 weeks volunteering in orphanages and playing shows all around the country.
I began saving money, and in January of 2009 I took my first vacation overseas with a friend to Costa Rica engaging in outdoor adventures like whitewater rafting, rappelling down waterfalls, and enjoying a new culture.
I WAS ADDICTED HOOKED!
Immediately after I returned home I started scouring travel magazines for my next adventure and lo and behold, right on the cover of Backpacker Magazine was Machu Picchu in Peru!  I had never even heard of Machu Picchu before or ever imagined traveling to Peru, but just 3 months after my trip to Costa Rica, I was on a plane with another friend for 2 & 1/2 weeks in Peru & Bolivia for more wild adventures in the Andes mountains and biking “The World’s Most Dangerous Road”!
After that trip I had basically wiped out all of my savings, and I knew that I was going to have to find a new way to see the world! That’s where learning about the topics discussed on this website like credit card sign up bonuses, frequent flyer miles, elite status, and other promotions came in…

Miles, Points, Credit Cards, & Smart Travel:
Plain and simple, the #1 method of earning stacks upon stacks of frequent flyer miles is by credit card sign-up bonuses! It doesn’t get any easier, or more lucrative than that.
The first miles earning credit card I ever had was a Delta Gold Skymiles credit card from American Express. It had a decent, but smaller sign-up bonus of 30,000 miles, but it was my primary card at the time and I used it to book free flights to LA and to go whitewater rafting in West Virginia so I was happy!  Since then I have earned and redeemed well over 2+ Million miles and hotel points across the board from numerous credit cards sign-up bonuses, credit card promotions, airline promotions, hotel promotions, online surveys, shopping, mileage dining programs, mileage malls, and by just plain – flying!
By redeeming frequent flyer miles, I have booked free flights to places like Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Madrid, Puerto Rico, Vancouver, Dominican Republic, Vegas, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Guatemala, & so much more!!

My Econ prof. shared this link to demonstrate the different exchange rates that you can get on the black market. Very interesting and helpful bc I am studying abroad in Spain this Spring and maybe I can get a better exchange rate when I am traveling around Europe? Cool blog, Jordy.
