The Starwood Preferred Guest program, also known as SPG has been offering a newer feature to redeem points called SPG Moments. They have different season offerings that vary from tickets to see Cirque Du Soleil, Meet & Greet at hotel parties with musicians, All Access passes to major sporting events, & more! Some are auctions, and others are a set amount of points that you can redeem. They are all limited to a low quantity as the tickets are high valued and very exclusive generally. Some of the events that they offer actually give a pretty respectable redemption value for the SPG points. I noticed tonight that they have 4 Coldplay shows with limited quantities listed on their “On Tour with SPG” category of the SPG Moments.

To check it out for yourself go to http://auction.starwoodhotels.com/
To view the Coldplay shows for redemption right now, click “On Tour with SPG: North America” at the bottom left hand of the screen.

As you can see, between all 4 shows listed, there’s only 17 total packages left to redeem. I imagine these won’t last very long. Each redemption of 5,000 SPG points says it comes with “Two (2) premium seats to the Coldplay concert”… My assumption of “Premium” means floor seats. Maybe that’s positive thinking, but I have to think you won’t be in the nose bleeds.  Below are the prices of what tickets are going for on Ticketmaster for these shows.

prices for the LA shows

Prices for the Seattle show

Prices for the San Jose show

If you pick the top 2 or 3 ticket pricing categories for each show, multiply it by 2 b/c you get 2 tickets, and then add $5 on top for the extra Ticketmaster fee charged at the end that they never tell you about, and divide it by the 5,000 SPG points that you’re paying for the 2 tickets, you will get a valuation of 3 or 4cpp and as high as 6.7cpp (cents per point)!  That’s solid!
Not to mention if you were already hoping to attend one of these events, you could save as much as $300+ for only 5,000 points! Pretty awesome deal.

Easy Way To Earn SPG Points:

E-Mail me here David@TravelandCredit.com
and I’ll send a referral to your email address for the SPG Personal or Business credit card (or both!). You will earn 10,000 points after your first purchase, and another 15,000 points after spending $5,000 on the card within your first 6 months of membership for a total of 25,000 SPG points.
I have both the personal and business version of this card and love it! I used SPG points for a cash & points redemption at the 5 Star Westin Palace hotel in Madrid over Christmas and will use more points this summer at the Sheraton hotel in Iguazu Falls National Park in Argentina!
You can also transfer your American Express Membership Rewards points to SPG at a 2:1 ratio (50% bonus running right now, used to be 3:1!). It’s still not the best ratio, but in hindsight to this offer from SPG, 10,000 AMEX MR points for potentially $340 in concert tickets is still a good deal in my eyes.
