Yet another devaluation and another program leaving the American Express Membership Rewards Program. If you go to the Membership Rewards Program website, login, and click on the Priority Club option to transfer your points to, it will give you the same graphic that you see in the picture above. “After June 30th, 2012, you will no longer be able to transfer Membership Rewards points into Priority Club Rewards frequent guests account.”
So if you’re trying to use your AMEX MR points for hotel stays through Priority Club this year, don’t forget to transfer out before June 30th. In the last year we’ve also seen Continental, & Southwest leave the Membership Rewards program. All unfortunate losses. If you’re frustrated with this loss, let American Express know by Secure Messaging them from your AMEX account, or tweeting @AmericanExpress, or by posting on their Facebook page. Social networking works, so use it!
I’ve never used AMEX MR to transfer to Priority Club, but I could see how it could be a benefit especially if you’re trying to take advantage of Pointsbreak hotels for only 5,000 points a night. I posted a link to the new list Saturday of hotels for only 5,000 points a night through May 31st, 2012.
There are still some gems in the Membership Rewards program though, like the 50% bonus transfer to British Airways running through May 31st, 2012.
They also just announced today through May 15th, 2012 a transfer bonus of 25% to Virgin Atlantic. While most of you don’t use Virgin Atlantic for flights, you can transfer your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles to Hilton at a 1:2 ratio, which means 10,000 AMEX MR >>> 12,500 Virgin Atlantic >>> 25,000 Hilton HHonors.
